Understanding Your Deductions

In Jamaica, several statutory deductions are made from your gross salary. These contributions fund various national programs and social services.

PAYE (Income Tax)

This is income tax. For this calculator, it's based on an annual tax-free threshold of JMD 1,799,376. Income above this threshold (after NIS and pension) is taxed at 25%. Always check with TAJ for the latest official rates.

NIS (National Insurance)

NIS provides social security benefits. Employees contribute 3% of gross salary, up to a monthly insurable earnings ceiling of JMD 416,667 (max monthly NIS: JMD 12,500.00).

NHT (Housing Trust)

NHT contributions help Jamaicans access affordable housing. Employees contribute 2% of their gross salary. These funds can be used for housing loans or may be eligible for refunds.

Education Tax

This tax supports education. Employees contribute 2.25% of their statutory income (Gross Pay minus NIS and approved Pension contributions).

Note: Rates and thresholds are based on parameters in this calculator and are subject to change. Always refer to official sources like Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) for current information.
